Membership
Please continue to email Lion Charles by the Thursday before club meetings to let him know whether you are attending or not.
Lion Alex has arranged a special membership drive display at the Dixie Value Mall on Sunday, Oct 16. He is preparing some very special displays and will be collecting eyeglasses at our table. Alex prepared a press release and photo which will be in the Mississauga News the week before the event.
The Board has voted to change our constitution to increase the donations by Lion Tail twister Merv’s from 10 cents to 50 cents. This is the first increase since the club was charted in 1937. It was also voted to fine those speaking, smoking and using a cell phone to $1.00 for the first offence and $2 for the second offence. I don’t know the penalty for the third offence (capital punishment?).
The 75th anniversary committee are working hard to make this the Anniversary that everyone will talk about for years to come. They are continuing to focus on finding sponsors and contributors for our program. The next committee meeting is after the Oct 17 regular meeting.
If you haven’t paid your dues please pay as soon as possible as our District and International dues are now being paid. Dues are $100 for regular members and $60 for Life members.
Lighthouse Restoration
Many thanks to Lion Linda who arranged the restoration of the Town hall and Lighthouse at the Peel Safety Village. The repair work was done at a very reasonable cost and both buildings look terrific.
Club Website
Lion Alex continues to keep our website up-to-date. Be sure to check the website for the latest club news and important dates for our activities.
Re-Opening of the Credit Valley Lions Pool and the Dedication of the Harold E. Kennedy Park
The official re-opening of The Lions Club of Credit Valley Pool and the dedication of The Harold E. Kennedy Memorial Park was held on July 10. A plaque was unveiled by Helen Kennedy, Lion Harold daughter. Lion Harold was the club’s first vice-president at the time of his death.
Planet Day
Lions Merv, Jim, Ray, Eric and Donna and Bill C provided the club’s services for the BBQ for the Peel Planet Day event in September. The Planet day is an event for the Volunteering Peel students to learn about maintaining a sustainable and clean environment the students on Planet day clean up the conservation park, plant trees and attend environmental workshops.
Volunteering Peel is a student run organization who provide student volunteers to charitable events. They provided volunteers for all our summer fund raising events. At the event we donated $250 to their organization which can be used to provide busses for students to attend the various events. Attached are some photos from the event.
Peel Young Parents Family Day.
Thank you Lions Clelia, Ray, Linda, Armin, Dolores, Jim, Gerrie, Margaret and Bill C. for your help at the Young Parents Family Day. We provided hamburgers for the over 400 family members attending.
Fund Raising Projects
Soccer BBQs
Lions Ray, Merv and Jim deserve special thanks for their hard work in running the very successful Erin Mills Soccer barbeques. Lion Linda deserves very special thanks for working all the BBQs on the cash drawer and for balancing each day. The soccer association continues to be very happy with the service we provide them at these events.
Southside Shuffle
Tips and empties provide us with revenue of $1388. Our portion from the beverage profit is to follow.
Canada Day Barbeque
After much discussion the board voted to discontinue the Canada Day BBQ as this year’s event made us only $618 with almost 100 hours of work for our club members.
Bingo
Our bingos continue to be a great revenue source while requiring not a great many hours. We raised total revenue of $7508 for June, July and August. Lion Treasurer Ray estimates that we should rise over $40,000 this year. Please note the schedule for the year in this bulletin and also on our website.
Nevada Lottery
Our Nevada draws continue to do well and are on budget to raise $3900 for the year. The latest collection was $895 for our activities account.
Freezer Draw
The winner of the freezer draw made on October 3rd was Tom Mallozzi. A profit will be donated to our two local hospitals.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Membership Drive
Lion Alex is looking to increase our membership back up to 50 strong within the next two years. We are having an eye glass collection/membership drive on Oct 16th at Dixie Value Mall running from 11am to 6pm. We will have new membership brochures available for promoting our club.
The event will be well advertised with a press release in the Mississauga News hopefully including a colour Photo. Lion Alex will be there the entire day and is looking for additional help.
