Membership
Welcome to our three new members, Lions Raya Shadursky, Barbara Baxter and Andree Vadeboncoeur. They were inducted into Lionism by our District Governor Ilkka Ahola at our November 28th meeting
Governor Ilkka on his visitation reviewed recent progress in Lionism and is looking for a positive growth in our District. He noted that the International President’s goal of Lions planting one million trees has been surpassed already with the planting of nearly five million trees.
Please continue to email Lion Charles by the Thursday before club meetings to let him know whether you are attending or not.
The 75th anniversary committee are working very hard to make this the anniversary that everyone will talk about for years to come. They are continuing to focus on finding sponsors and contributors for our program. The next committee meeting is after the January 16th regular meeting.
If you haven’t paid your dues please pay as soon as possible as our District and International dues are now being paid. Dues are $100 for regular members and $60 for Life members.
Lion Alex has taken on the task to run the registration desk at our District 711 convention at the Airport Holiday Inn on April 27, 28 and 29. We will require Lions to assist at the desk on these dates. A club hospitality room has been arranged for the convention in which the election for zone chairman will take place. Lion Niles is now campaigning for this position
Lions John C, John B., Linda and Ross represented our Club at the Remberance Day service. They laid our club wreath at the memorial monument.
Lion Merv challenged our members at a club meeting to help raise money for World Vision and said that he would match up to $50 from his own pocket. The Lions responded to this challenge and raised $236 for a total of $286 to World Vision.
Carolling-in-the-Park was again a great success with over 1,000 attending. We were fortunate in having the warmest night in the event’s 37 years history. Many thanks to Lion John and the Lions who helped make it such a great event.
Many thanks to Lion Rob who arranged our fabulous Christmas dinner at the Markland Golf and Country Club. I know everyone was very delighted with their Christmas gifts
Club Website
Lion Alex continues to keep our website up-to-date. Be sure to check the website for the latest club news and important dates for our activities.
Proposed Trillium Foundation Grant
Volunteering Peel, the student volunteering organization asked our club to be a joint applicant to their proposal for a Trillium Foundation grant. The Trillium Foundation is the organization that gives grants from the Ontario Lottery revenue to Ontario charities and non-profit groups.
Volunteering Peel is now preparing a draft of their proposal for our review. We are to review if we could include a conservation project for the Credit Valley Conservation Authority. The Credit Valley Lions Club was instrumental in starting up the organization in the early 50’s. The authority works with different groups to restore the shoreline and to understand the causes and effects of the shoreline decline
Meadowcroft Seniors Christmas Party
Our members helped to host the Meadowcroft Seniors Christmas party in December. Many thanks to the Lion Charles who arranged for the choir, Chairman Lion Walter who provided the treats, Lion Rob, Lion Ed who emceed and Lion Alex who was Santa.
Committee Memberships
Many thanks to Lion Ed who compiled the members for our Club committees based on the input from the members preferences. He did a terrific job in organizing the committees with five members each. Lists of the committee members were distributed at the January 9th meeting. The following are the committee chairmen:
Attendance & Member Communication Charles Garnett
Bingo Dolores DiLuzio
Club Health and Welfare Amalio Cedrez
Community Betterment Linda Hollyoake
Constitution and By-Laws Armin Bruer
Convention and Parades Ray Cyr
Inter-Lions Affairs Niles Shaw

Fund Raising Projects
Bingo
Our bingos continue to be a great revenue source while requiring not a great many hours. We raised a revenue of $2100 for October, $2968 for November and $2318 for December. Please note the schedule for the next three months in this bulletin and also on our website.
Nevada Lottery
Our Nevada draws continue to do well and are on budget to raise $3900 for the year. The latest collection was $895 for our activities account.
Waterfront Festival and SouthSide Shuffle
Lion John C. is working to set up a more efficient bar setup for the Waterfront Festival. There will be no admission costs this year for the festival so the Civitan Club which used to run the sales booths has been given the parking responsibility that we used to do.
Lion John has also been appointed to the Board of Directors for the SouthSide Shuffle so he is in a much better position to establish a more efficient bar setup.
UPCOMING ACTIVITIES
Membership Drive
Lion Alex is looking to increase our membership back up to 50 strong within the next two years. We are having an eye glass collection/membership drive on Sunday, February at Dixie Value Mall and Sunday, March 25 at Sheridan Mall. We will have new membership brochures available for promoting our club. Lion Alex will be there the entire day and is looking for additional help.
Effective Speaking
Please note that the date for our club meeting has been changed from March 12 to March 19 in order to fit in our effective speaking competition. This was because of the conflict with the school March break which starts on March 12 and that the District competition is on Saturday, March 24.
You may remember Katija Bonin who won the all-Ontario Multiple District competition last year while representing our club. She gave a very inspiring speech on the wonderful work that Lions do and received a standing ovation with her speech at our District convention. I am pleased to report that she graduated from Lorne Park High School this year and was the school valedictorian. I was at the commencement celebration and she again gave another inspiring speech.

Enter the 2011-12 Environmental Photo Contest
The Environmental Photo Contest (EPC) is a wonderful way for Lions from around the world to showcase the beauty of their environment. We invite all multiple districts to submit one photograph for the international EPC that will take place during our 2012 International Convention. We also feature many of the photos in our annual EPC wall calendar. Learn more about the 2012 EPC - and how to purchase the 2012 calendar.
