Our History: We have been serving our community for 75 years.

Lions Clubs International had been formed in 1917 by 23 founding clubs. The first Canadian Club - the Windsor Lions Club - was chartered in 1920. Our Club was formed in December, 1937. We are an active thriving Lions Club always looking for a few good men and women to join in on our fun and community projects.

Since the beginning we have participated in numerous local and international projects. From the 1940's through the 1960's we sold hot dogs, donuts and hot chocolate to the skaters on the Credit River. We also held an annual Carnival from 1946 through 1966. We donated the first $25,000 in 1952 to build the South Peel Hospital (now the Trillium Health Center). To date we have donated over $700.000 to this project alone. In 1954 we helped fund raise to build the first swimming pool which cost over $125,000. Through the years we have donated to sports youth groups; baseball, hockey, soccer, football and Cubs & boy Scouts. Fron the 1970's through the 1990's we sold all sorts of stuff to help our fundraising activities; such as nuts, chocolate Easter bunnies, Christmas Cakes and canes filled candies.

We have also participated in the Santa Claus Parade in Mississauga from the early 1970's through the 1990's. Other activities include working at Bingos and other outdoor events in the summer months.

Most recently in 2006 the Mississauga Credit Valley Lions Club was formed from the merging of three of the local Lions Clubs; the Dixie Lions Club, the Erindale Lions Club and the Credit Valley Lions Club. In 2008 our Club along with the Mississauga Central Lions Club formed the Mississauga Leos Club for youths between the ages of 14 and 21 years of age.

We are also very proud of our eyeglass recycling program which started in 2003. We have collected and donated over 18,120 pairs of glasses to date.

We are now in the midst of another change - We are loosing our old Lions Hall to city improvement. You can see at the bottom of this page the last photo of our Club Members in attendance at the last regular meeting. this meeting was held on Nov. 23rd, 2009. We are grateful for the photo taken by Mr. Gordon J. Hatten and donated from his collection.

A new addition to our web site will include some of the the history of each of the three original Lions Clubs. These Clubs merged together to create a stronger Lions Club - details will follow

Our activities above are only a very small listing of the projects we have been involved with through the years.
